Some of those homebuyers, getting top dollar now for their old Highlands Ranch houses, were already resigned to moving out of the 22,000-acre master-planned community, to find newer, single-family plans that don’t require all the mowing and raking their current places need.

Those buyers get a nice surprise when they find these low-maintenance models at Crescendo at Central Park, east of Lucent on Plaza, where Shea gives each a lush, easy-to-maintain xeriscape. But the bigger shock is waiting when they step inside and see the space Shea has created with these.

“They tell us, ‘Wow, we didn’t expect this,’ ” says Shea’s Miguel Moran.

Most of those buyers, he adds, have been touring new-urban plans by other builders — some single family, some row homes — with similar layouts, the garage down and the entertaining area on a second level.
