Two injured when car goes over embankment on Wolf Creek Pass

Two people were injured when their vehicle went down an embankment on Wolf Creek Pass early Saturday morning.

Cpl. Ivan  Alvarado of the Colorado State Patrol said officers got word of the accident at 3:46 a.m. He said the vehicle was 300 feet to 400 feet down the side of U.S. 160 in southwest Colorado

The passenger, a 41-year-old woman, suffered a broken sternum, Alvarado said. The driver, a 49-year-old man, was also injured, but Alvarado didn’t know what his injuries were.

Their names weren’t released.

The State Patrol said both people were wearing their seat belts. They were taken to the Pagosa Springs Medical Center.

Alvarado said the cause of the accident is under investigation.
